The Bafut Palace This over 400 years emblematic site represents centuries of history bearing witness to the power and importance of the Bafut people. The palace is the seat of power to the revered Bafut ruler whose fascinating pyramidal roof tops form a perfect blend of local and German architectural prowess.
Nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site , the palace has however made it to the World Monument Fund watch list of the 100 most endangered sites of 2006.
This huge palace which comprises of over 50 buildings has a museum to its name and the "rock of ages" Achum shrine which is the only building from the original palace which still stands tall. This iconic shrine acts as the centre for traditional and religious rites of the Bafut people. The cultural significance and events which take place in this palace have left hundreds of visitors flocking into the site to live the experience firsthand. It is the center of the Bafut experience.
